mysqlをインストールする

WITH_CHARSET=charset    Define the primary built-in charset (latin1).
WITH_XCHARSET=list      Define other built-in charsets (may be 'all').
WITH_COLLATION=collate  Define default collation (latin1_swedish_ci).
WITH_OPENSSL=yes        Enable secure connections.
WITH_LINUXTHREADS=yes   Use the linuxthreads pthread library.
WITH_PROC_SCOPE_PTH=yes Use process scope threads
(try it if you use libpthread).
BUILD_OPTIMIZED=yes     Enable compiler optimizations (use it if you need speed).
BUILD_STATIC=yes        Build a static version of mysqld.  (use it if you need even more speed).
WITH_NDB=yes            Enable support for NDB Cluster.

cd /usr/ports/databases/mysql51-server/
sudo make WITH_CHARSET=utf8 install clean

% sudo /usr/local/bin/mysql_install_db
Installing MySQL system tables...
OK
Filling help tables...
OK

To start mysqld at boot time you have to copy
support-files/mysql.server to the right place for your system

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE MySQL root USER !
To do so, start the server, then issue the following commands:
/usr/local/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password'
/usr/local/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h j4 password 'new-password'

You can start the MySQL daemon with:
cd /usr/local ; /usr/local/bin/mysqld_safe &

You can test the MySQL daemon with mysql-test-run.pl
cd mysql-test ; perl mysql-test-run.pl

% sudo /usr/local/bin/mysqld_safe &

sudo chown -R mysql:mysql /var/db/mysql
sudo /usr/local/bin/mysqld_safe &

起動時にmysqldを立ち上げる場合
/etc/rc.conf に

mysql_enable="YES"

と書くとFreeBSD起動時にmysqldが自動的に起動される。
